Helmut often bestowed people with the words, “try try try.” I approached the title design purely with typography: the only idea I had was that from a distance it shouldn’t just look like white paper. I wanted to bring out a sense of unity by arranging things with natural line breaks, and layered part of the design, while keeping the type volume in mind. It had been only a short while since Helmut’s passing and I was still sentimental. Maybe that’s why the letters ‘try try try’ appeared as though they were floating in the sky. Helmut would always strive to find the most ideal form when he was designing.
He often used the words “freedom in restrictions.” Only when you understand the content can you deduce form. I was highly influenced by his thought process, and I believe that is how I came up with the idea for the poster.
