佐藤雅彦氏と齋藤達也氏がこの数年来「指（身体）とグラフィックデザインの新しい関係」を探求してきた中で生まれた新しい表現、新しい表象、新しい可能性を、会場内の様々なグラフィックに「指を置く」という単純な所作を行うことで体感してもらう展覧会。紙のグラフィックは反応・変化しないが、「指を置く」だけで鑑賞者の内部に新しい表象が立ち上がる。その体験の不思議さは大きな注目を集め、会期中多くの来場者で賑わった。

In recent years Masahiko Sato and Tatsuya Saito have been probing new relationships between graphic design and fingers, i.e. the human body, and in the process they have given birth to new modes of expression, new representations and new possibilities. In this exhibition, visitors could experience these for themselves by the simple gesture pf placing their fingers, literally, or various graphic works set out throughout the gallery. Although the paper graphics undergo neither a reaction nor change, the visitor produces new representations simply by the act of placing fingers.

独自の方法や考え方で、映像、アニメーション、グラフィック、教育方法、脳科学と表現の研究など、分野を超えた活動を行っている。1999年より開始した慶應大学佐藤雅彦研究室の「概念を重視した表現」や、研究室が番組に参画するＮＨＫ教育テレビ 『ピタゴラスイッチ』が注目を集める。代表作に、プレイステーションソフト 『I.Q インテリジェントキューブ』、ＮＨＫ教育テレビ 『2355／0655』『考えるカラス』、著書には、『経済ってそういうことだったのか会議』（竹中平蔵氏との共著、日本経済新聞社）、『毎月新聞』（毎日新聞社／中央公論新社）、『任意の点Ｐ』 『差分』（美術出版社）、『ピタゴラ装置 DVDブック』（小学館）などがある。朝日広告賞最高賞、ADC賞グランプリ、ACC賞グランプリ、1991年クリエイター・オブ・ザ・イヤー、毎日デザイン賞、日本賞総務大臣賞、ニューヨークADC賞金賞、日本数学会出版賞、D&AD賞、芸術選奨（平成23年度）、紫綬褒章（平成25年度） ほか受賞多数。

静岡県生まれ。東京大学教育学部卒業。電通を経て、1994年TOPICS設立。1999年慶應義塾大学環境情報学部教授に就任、2006年より東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科教授。著書に『佐藤雅彦全仕事』、『毎月新聞』、『Fが通過します』など。他に、短篇映画集「Kino」、NHK教育テレビ「ピタゴラスイッチ」、「脳科学と表現」の研究など、幅広く活動。

Using his own methods and approaches, Mr. Sato undertakes activities transcending the parameters of any one specific field, his interests encompassing film and video, animation, graphics, education methods, neuroscience and expression-related research. In 1999 he launched the Masahiko Sato Laboratory at Keio University, engaging in the study of concept-oriented expression. The Laboratory participates in the planning of “PythagoraSwitch,” a long-running children’s education program on NHK that has garnered much notice. Mr. Sato’s representative works include the video game software “I.Q. / Intelligent Qube” for PlayStation and three popular children’s programs on NHK: “2355,” “0655” and “Crow Solving the Problem.” His publications to date include “A Conference on ‘So, That’s What the Economy is All About’” (co-authored with Heizo Takenaka), “Monthly Newspaper,” “An Arbitrary Point P,” “Difference” and “Pythagoras Device: DVD Book.” His many awards won to date include the Asahi Advertising Highest Award, Tokyo ADC Grand Prix, ACC Grand Prix, Creator of the Year (1991), Mainichi Design Award, Prime Minister’s Award, New York ADC Gold Prize, Mathematical Society of Japan Publication Prize, D&AD Award, Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts (2011) and Medal with Purple Ribbon (2013).

Born in Shizuoka. He graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of Tokyo. After working for Dentsu, he established TOPICS in 1994. In 1999 he was appointed a professor in the Faculty of Environmental Information at Keio University, and since 2006 he has been a professor in the Graduate School of Film and New Media at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His publications include "The Computer Works of Masahiko Sato", "The Monthly Newspaper" and "F is coming thorough."  His other wide-ranging activities include the short film "Kino," the Play Station game "I.Q," NHK's educational television program "Pythagora-Switch," and research on the relationship between neuroscience and expression.

映像技術やコンピュータ・プログラミング、電子工学を駆使した展示設計、広告・舞台演出を行う一方、人間に潜在している知覚・認知能力を発掘することによって新しいメディア表現の可能性を研究模索している。アルスエレクトロニカ・センター、SIGGRAPH 、NTTインターコミュニケーションセンター［ICC］ 等で作品発表。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校大学院 芸術・建築学科修了。東京藝術大学大学院 映像研究科後期博士課程修了（博士・映像メディア学）。

While on the one hand Mr. Saito delves in video technology, computer programming, display design employing electronics, advertising and stage production, he also explores new possibilities in media expression by probing human beings’ inherent perceptual and cognitive capabilities. He has shown his works at Ars Electronica Center, SIGGRAPH, NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC), etc. He completed a Masters Degree at the University of California at Los Angeles’s School of the Arts and Architecture and a PhD in Film and New Media Studies at Tokyo University of the Arts.

「奥村昭夫と仕事展」は企画当初、「奥村昭夫の仕事展（仮）」という展覧会名でした。展示と広報物のデザインの話をいただいたとき、最初に提案したことが「の」を「と」に変えること。 この頃、Keith Haring展の広報物で故人との仕事（意思決定者が本人ではないこと）の難しさを痛感していたので、今を生きる人とのプロジェクトではそこでしか出来ないことに挑戦したいと考えていました。奥村さんは元気に活躍されているので、仕事と並走している進行形のタイトルを提案したんです。当時、影響を受けていたMVRDVなどのオランダの建築家のラディカルな姿勢を持ち込みたく、奥村さんに事務所を会場に引っ越してもらったり、しゃがまないと見えない展示構成にしたりしていましたね。広報物も同様に、しっかりと見ないと見えないものにしたく、スミ版の上に色を刷って目を凝らすデザインとしています。 ポスターを貼るとはどういう行為なのかは今も考えていて、「ルール？展」（21_21 DESIGN SIGHT、2021年）のポスターも図版を回転させることで、ポスターの前に立つ人の視点を変えています。つくったら終わりではなく、そこから生まれる関係性をデザインしているのは今も同じですね。

Before it became ‘Okumura Akio and Works’, the original running title was ‘The Work of Okumura Akio’. When I was asked to design the exhibition and PR materials, my first suggestion was to change ‘of’ to ‘and’. Around the time, I was having difficulty with the PR material for the Keith Haring exhibition; he had passed away (i.e. the decision makers were not the person in question). If I was going to work on a project with a living person, I wanted to try something that could only be done while the person was alive. Mr. Okumura was still vigorously active, so I suggested a progressive title to run in parallel with his work. I wanted to incorporate elements of the radical attitudes of architects from the Netherlands like MVRDV, so we asked Mr. Okumura to move his office to the exhibition venue, and created a layout where you had to crouch to see him working. I also wanted to create something you couldn't see properly without looking carefully in the PR materials; the design used colors overprinted on black that you had to look at carefully to see. I still wonder what it means to stick up posters; with the poster for Exhibition “Rules?” (21_21 Design Sight, 2021), I rotated the image in an attempt to change the perspective of the people looking at it. It’s never a complete design; even now I design to create new relationships.

「三木健展」では、“ from to”「〇〇から〇〇へ」をコンセプトにコミュニケーションデザインの思考プロセスをビジュアライズしました。それまでの仕事を再編集した200折のジャバラ型の立体物が会場を横断し、コンテンツの役目を担っています。平面から空間、また、デジタル環境からデザイン領域を横断的に捉える様々な仕事が交差し、それぞれが影響し合うことでまるで情報の建築物が組み立てられるような展示を計画しました。

I visualised the thought process of communication design in the concept “from to,” for the Ken Miki Exhibition. I reorganised all the work I had done into an accordion style 3D work consisting of 200 folds that ran right through the venue and displayed all my work. It was a crossover of various things, from 2D to space design; digital to design work. I planned the exhibition so each piece would influence other work and seemingly create a new information structure.
