On display were 161 posters, all produced between 1953 and 1979, selected from the Ikko Tanaka Archives founded in 2008. The exhibition traced Tanaka's abundant creative activities, which continued throughout his life, during their early and middle periods. In addition to his masterpieces such as the Kobe Workers' Music Association and Sankei Kanze Noh series, the show also introduced numerous outstanding "unknown" works never featured in previous exhibitions or published collections. Besides serving as a retrospective of the origin of Tanaka's creative activities, the exhibition probed the profound appeal of the period when he made steady progress on his way to becoming one of the world's foremost poster artists.
