現在、劇場や美術館等文化的分野のポスターを中心に活躍する作家の日本で初の展覧会は、会場全体をパリの街頭に見立てて可動式のパネルで街路を制作。ヨーロッパの街頭で見られる大型ポスター58点を展示。6面マルチでは、パリの個展会場で撮影したプロモーションビデオを上映。

For the first Japanese exhibition of this artist who is currently mainly active in cultural posters for theater and art museums, the entire hall was turned into the streets of Paris with movable panels. 58 large posters as can be seen on European streets were exhibited. On the 6 multi-screens, a promotional video taken at a solo exhibition in Paris was shown.

フランス生まれ。国立パリ高等学校美術学校卒業。1986年ワルシャワ国際ポスター・ビエンナーレ等で注目を集め、フランス国内にとどまらず、世界各地で数多くのビエンナーレやジョイント展覧会に参加し、個展も1986年から94年までの間に38回開催。フランス及びヨーロッパ屈指のポスターアーティスト。1987年、92年パリ国立図書館文化ポスターグランプリ、1988年ブルーノ国際グラフィックデザイン・ビエンナーレ銅賞等受賞多数。

チュニス（チュニジア）生まれ。パリ国立美術学校の絵画科を卒業後、早い時期からポスターやグラフィックアートに取り組む。ポスターアーティストとして、主に、公的機関の文化（演劇、オペラ、音楽、舞踏、美術館、フェスティバル）活動の仕事を手がける。また、本のデザイン・制作を行うほか、自分のアトリエに所属するグラフィックデザイナーたちと共同で、数多くの公的機関のビジュアル・アイデンティティや、フランス内外の美術館や特別展のサインシステムをデザイン・制作している。
ポスターアーティストとしての個展をフランス国内だけでなく、世界各国（オランダ、ドイツ、ルーマニア、ユーゴスラビア、ポーランド、オーストリア、ポルトガル、メキシコ、ソ連、ウルグアイ、チリ、フィンランド、インド、フィリピン、ペルー、キューバ、ギリシャ、南アフリカ、イタリア、チェコスロバキア、アルゼンチン、ハンガリー、アルバニア、スペイン、日本、デンマーク、トルコ、パラグアイ、中国、マルト、ボリビア、カンボジア、エクアドル、カナダ）で開催。主要な国際ポスター賞（ポーランド、フィンランド、チェコスロバキア、アメリカ、中国、日本、ロシア、台湾など）のほぼすべてで、多くの賞を受賞。また何度も審査員を務めている。フランスでは、1987年と1992年に、フランス国立図書館の文化ポスターグランプリを受賞している。
また、後進の指導にも当たっている。パリのESAG/ペニンゲンで教授として教鞭を取るほか、フランス、イタリア、スウェーデン、イスラエル、カナダ、メキシコ、ボリビア、パラグアイ、ブラジル、中国、台湾、オーストラリアで、ポスターデザインのワークショップを指導している。
「世界のグラフィックデザイナー」、「東海岸/西海岸、アメリカのグラフィックデザイナーたち」、「スウィンギング・ロンドン、今日のグラッフィクアートと音楽」、「9人の女性グラフィックデザイナー」「本が大好き！ワールドツアー」、「アメリカンドリーム」、「東京ライブ」、「目的地ロシア」など、数多くの展覧会の企画委員を務めたほか、2000年、2002年、2004年、2006年、2008年、2010年、2012年のエシロル・グラフィックデザイン・フェスティバルの「北‐南、ヨーロッパとラテンアメリカのグラッフィクデザイナー」展（テクスチュエル出版から本を刊行）や、2003年のパリ、ポンピドゥーセンターで開かれた「リーヴル・ドゥ・ポッシュは50歳」展でも企画委員を務めた。2014年、パリで開催されたグラフィックデザイン・フェスティバルでは企画統括委員を務めている。
1997年から、AGI（国際グラフィックデザイン連盟）会員。

Born in France, he graduated from the National Parisian School of Art. He received attention at places such as International Poster Biennale, Warsaw in 1986. Not limiting himself to France, he participated in many biennales and joint exhibitions around the world. He had 38 solo exhibitions between 1986 and 1994. He is a prominent French and European poster artist. His many awards include the 1987 and 1992 Paris National Library Cultural Poster Grand Prize and the 1988 International Graphic Design Biennale, Bruno, Bronze Award.

Born in Tunis （Tunisia). Graduated from l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris （painting section）, he turned to poster and graphic design early on. As a poster designer, he mainly works in the field of culture （theater, opera, music, dance, museum, festival) and that of institutions （local collectivities, public institutions）. He also designs and produces books and, in cooperation with graphic designers of his studio, designs and produces numerous visual identities for public institutions as well as description systems for museums and temporary exhibitions in and out of France.
As such, he has organized individual exhibitions of posters in France and in a number of foreign countries （Holland, Germany, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Poland, Austria, Portugal, Mexico, URSS, Uruguay, Chili, Finland, India, Philippines, Peru, Cuba, Greece, South Africa, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Argentine, Hungary, Albania, Spain, Japan, Denmark, Turkey, Paraguay, China, Malta, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ecuador and Canada）. He has won numerous awards from most of the great international competitions of poster design （Poland, Finland, Czechoslovakia, USA, China, Japan, Russia, Taiwan…） where he had also been invited as member of the jury on many occasions. In France, he was awarded the Great Award of Cultural Poster at the National Library of France in 1987 and 1992.
He also devotes his time to education: he is professor at ESAG/Penninghen in Paris. He also runs poster design workshops in France, Italy, Sweden, Israel, Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, China, Taiwan and Australia.
He is commissioner to the exhibitions "Graphic Designers around the World", "East Coast / West Coast. Graphic Designers in USA", "Swinging London, Graphic Design and Music Today", "9 Women Graphic Designers", "We love books! A World Tour", "The American Dream", "Live in Tokyo" and "Destination Russia", "North-South. Graphic Designers of Europe and Latin America" presented in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 at the Graphic Design Month in Echirolles （books published at Textuel Editions）, and to "The Livre de Poche is 50 years old" in March 2003 at the Pompidou Center in Paris. He was general commissioner to the Graphic Design Festival in 2014 in Paris.
He is member of the AGI （Alliance Graphique Internaionale) since 1997.

dddギャラリーには国外の気鋭のデザイナーを紹介してきた歴史がありますが、それを最初に提案したのは松井桂三氏。スペインで行われた「JAPAN PRINT」展でスペインを訪れた氏が、３度もスペインの地でDNPの北島義俊社長（当時）に出会ったことで、帰国後に「大阪で年に２〜３回、展覧会企画をお願いしたい」との依頼を受け、「世界の若手〜中堅デザイナーを紹介することができるなら」と提案したことからdddギャラリーのひとつの性格が形作られることになりました。 東京のgggでは有名な国外のデザイナーの展覧会は開かれていましたが、日本人がまだ知らないこれからのデザイナーを紹介する場は当時はなく、dddギャラリーは独自の存在意義をそこに見出すことになりました。松井氏が足で稼いだネットワークが海外との接点となり、そこからアジア・アフリカを含む幅広い海外デザイナーの紹介につながりました（海外では一時はgggよりもdddの方が認知度が高かったという噂も）。 松井氏が企画した展覧会のポスターは自身が手がけていますが、インターネットのない90年代、出展デザイナーとやりとりをするのに時間がかかるため、そして、企画者がデザイナーの松井氏であることが信頼につながっており、情報の少ないデザイナーなどは松井氏のイマジネーションがポスターに強く発揮されています。例えば「ホワイノット・アソシエイツ展（第12回）」のポスターは「why」を手がかりに「？」を針金で作りガーゼを巻き付けガソリンを染み込ませ、燃やして撮影していたり、「ラッセル・ウォーレン-フィッシャー展（第15回）」では「Fish(er)」をモチーフに市場で買ってきた生きたヒラメを撮影したりしてつくられています。インターネット以前のグラフィックデザインを見るうえで貴重な逸話です。 松井氏はdddギャラリーの移転に際し、「これからのグラフィックデザインがどうなるかを考える展覧会が増えることを期待している。未来のことを考え、人々の五感を動かすことがグラフィックデザイナーの仕事」とのメッセージを寄せてくれました。

ddd gallery has a history of showcasing emerging designers from overseas; the initiator of these exhibitions was Keizo Matsui. When visiting Spain for the Japan Print Exhibition held there, he met the president of DNP (at that time), Yoshitoshi Kitajima, three times. After returning to Japan, Kitajima asked Matsui to come up with two or three exhibitions a year in Osaka, and suggested showcasing the world’s young and mid-career designers, which ended up forming part of ddd Gallery’s backbone. Tokyo’s ggg had held exhibitions of famous designers, but in those days no place was showcasing designers yet unknown to the Japanese; in that way, ddd gallery had discovered its own unique reason to exist. The network that Matsui had gained from his travels led to connections with wide reaching introductions of international designers, including those from Asia and Africa (there was also a rumor that, at one stage, ddd was more well-known than ggg internationally). Though Matsui did design the posters for exhibitions he curated, correspondence with exhibiting designers back in the 90s took time without the internet; there was also a lack of information available on these designers. Being a designer, exhibition planner Matsui was hence trusted with the posters, and as a result his imagination is on full display in the designs. For example, for the poster for the 12th Why Not Associates Exhibition, he created a question mark (?) representing ‘why’ with wire, wrapped it in gauze, doused it in gasoline, set it alight, and took photos, and for the 15th Russell Warren-Fisher Exhibition he bought a live flounder from the market as a motif for Fish(er) and photographed it. They now serve as interesting graphic design anecdotes from a pre-internet era. With the most recent relocation of ddd Gallery, Matsui delivered a message that stated, “I hope to see more exhibitions that make us think about what is to become of graphic design. Graphic design should make us think about the future, and rouse the senses of every person.”
