    Born on Ukashima in Yamaguchi, the last of eight children in a fisherman’s family. In his fourth year of elementary school, he became enthralled by poster art under the influence of a teacher. After graduating from Osaka Designers' College, he began working in Osaka, and came to know of and admire Shin Matsunaga; he finally joined Matsunaga's studio in 1984. He later worked for Taki Corporation and I&S/BBDO, and then in 1995 he established Shinmura Design Office. He is a member of JAGDA and the New York ADC.
